Bossier City, located on Louisiana’s Other Side, is a progressive community with big city amenities and small town charm. Friendly people and diverse offerings add to its allure. It’s been careful and thoughtful city planning that makes it one of the fastest growing cities in Louisiana.
Its history dates back to the 1830s when it was the Elysian Groves Plantation of James and Mary Cane. From it, steamboat loads of cotton, corn and sweet potatoes were shipped out to markets in the south and east. By 1882, the plantation was at the center of convergence for the infamous Shed Road, the Red River steamboat waterway, and the soon-to-arrive “Iron Horse” railroad.
The Red River then and now continues to be a thriving center from which most commerce occurs. Situated on the Red River in Bossier City is the Louisiana Boardwalk. It is the regions number one attraction for visitors and the community. The Boardwalk offers great shopping, dining and entertainment.
The three riverboat casinos along the river offer nonstop gaming action. From the pull of slots at Horseshoe Casino and Hotel, DiamondJacks’ Casino and Resort, and Boomtown Casino and Hotel to the throw of the dice, Lady Luck continues to stack the odds in favor of fun.
This patriotic community is also home to the mighty Barksdale Air Force Base. This base provides so much to the community, the nation and the world.
That’s just the beginning for retirees interested in Bossier City. There is great golf, restaurants, parks, events and fun. So make Bossier City: Louisiana’s Other Side your home.
